The Thai – Norwegian Chamber of Commerce attended Premium Member Yara’s Grand opening of a new bagging line in Ayutthaya province Wednesday 3 April 2017

Yara is a Norwegian company with a long presence in Thailand, dating back to 1972. The history of Yara and the bond between Thailand and Norway go all the way back to 1907, when His Majesty King Chulalongkorn visited Yara’s factory in Notodden, Norway, and bought one ton of fertilizer to use in Thailand.

Today Yara has 24 production facilities in 15 countries around the world and more than 200 warehouses and terminals. This makes Yara the world’s largest supplier of mineral fertilizer. Thailand is Yara’s biggest market in Asia, with China as the second largest.

The new bagging line in Ayutthaya is the first of its kind for Yara. Yara has similar automatic or semi-automatic bagging lines in other countries around the world, but this is the first one where robots are used. Computers monitor all parts of the production, which makes the production both more efficient and of very high quality. By using this world-class technology, there is less dust and waste from the production, and work areas can be divided between workers and machines, creating a safer work environment for Yara’s employees. Sustainable development and innovations are vital factors for Yara in order to create high quality fertilizer to help farmers in Thailand to grow their crops with maximum efficiency. This is an important contribution to development and growth of agriculture in Thailand.
