Celebrate Thailand’s Vegetarian Festival with Fresh & Flavourful Creations at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, one of our corporate members, is inviting its cherished guests and local residents to savour the flavours of Thailand’s Vegetarian Festival! Running from 2-11 October, 2024. This vibrant annual celebration originated as a Chinese Taoist ritual to help people cleanse their bodies by following a vegan diet. Over the years, it has evolved into a colourful and captivating occasion that sees devotees participate in dramatic rituals, creating a dazzling spectacle for visitors.
To mark this year’s Vegetarian Festival, the talented culinary team at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit has unveiled a series of experiences across three of their popular dining venues: Orchid Café, an elegant all-day destination overlooking Sukhumvit Road; Rossini’s, a Michelin-rated Italian ristorante; and Basil, Bangkok’s most exciting Thai restaurant.
The highly-skilled chefs at Orchid Café will showcase a unique Vegetarian Day selection as part of their popular International Lunch Buffets (Mon-Thu & Sat, 12:00-15:00 hrs.), International Dinner Buffets (Mon-Thu, 18:00-22:30 hrs.), and Grande Seafood Weekend Dinner Buffets (Fri-Sun, 18:00-22:30 hrs.). These vegan and vegetarian delights will cover every aspect of the culinary journey, with sublime soups like Choo Chee Tao Hu Oon (soft bean curd in thick red curry) and Pae Kuay Phad Pak Ruam (stir-fried vegetables with ginkgo nut), and a choice of main course such as Tao Hu Nam Daeng Nor Mai Farang (braised tofu with asparagus). Two mouth-watering menus will be served on rotation throughout this 10-day festival.
At Rossini’s, Chef Giacomo Vinci has crafted eight exquisite vegetarian dishes, which will form part of the restaurant’s regular à la carte menu for lunch (12:00-14:30 hrs.) and dinner (17:30-22:30 hrs.) from 2-11 October. These fresh and flavourful creations include an appetiser of Cardoncelli Grigliati (grilled king oyster mushroom on grilled artichokes with mint-mustard sauce), a signature pasta dish of Cannelloni Di Zucca (butternut squash cannelloni with porcini mushrooms, hazelnuts & fresh rosemary), a main course of Variazione Di Carota (braised carrots on carrot juice reduction with Pommery mustard), and delectable desserts including Mela Candita (apple tarte tatin with Fuji apple cake & lemon sherbet).
Finally, at Basil, Chef Manachai and his team will present an extensive selection of à la carte Thai delights that are “Simply Aroi”! From appetisers and salads such as Yum Pollamai (spicy tropical fruit salad), soups and curries including Tom Yum Hed Bai Makham (spicy mushroom soup with tamarind leaves & Thai herbs) and Gaeng Kua Bai Chapoo Ped (red curry with mock duck & betel leaves), a series of wok-fried favourites such as Phad Priew Waan Tofu (stir-fried bean curd with sweet & sour sauce) and meatless Phad Kaprao (stir-fried vegan minced meat with holy basil & chilli), and exotic desserts like Kanom Pra Pai (rice flour dumplings stuffed with Mung bean, glazed with coconut cream), every diner can savour authentic Thai vegetarian cuisine. These dishes will be available for lunch (12:00-14:30 hrs.) and dinner (17:30-22:30 hrs.) throughout the festival.
Lastly, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival or Jay Festival, the Vegetarian Festival, is celebrated across Southeast Asia, starting on the eve of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. To fully immerse themselves in the spirit of this exotic occasion, guests can head to Yaowarat, Bangkok’s Chinatown, where the streets and temples envelop them in an array of heady scents, sights, and sounds.
