2025: Record Growth for Norwegian Seafood

NSC hits the mark with Salmon Campaign in Thailand
The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), our premium member, is proud to report that Norwegian seafood exports posted strong growth in Thailand and across Southeast Asia in 2025, led by salmon and trout.
Norwegian seafood exports posted strong growth in Thailand and across Southeast Asia in 2025, driven by rising demand for salmon and trout. Exports to Thailand increased 12% in volume to 47,000 tons, while value rose 16% to NOK 3.2 billion compared to 2024.
Salmon and trout remained the key growth engines, jumping 36% in volume to 36,700 tons and reaching NOK 3.1 billion in value. Thailand’s preference for premium products was evident, with 91% of salmonid imports delivered fresh. Mackerel exports, however, fell 28% in volume to 8,200 tons, though higher prices pushed export value up 6% to NOK 310 million following reduced Atlantic mackerel quotas.
Across Southeast Asia, total Norwegian seafood export value climbed 13% to NOK 10.7 billion, with volume up 1% to 174,000 tons. Salmon was the region’s top species by value at NOK 5.71 billion, followed by mackerel and trout. Salmonid exports surged 31% in volume but only 10% in value due to lower prices that helped boost consumption.
The results underscore Southeast Asia—particularly Thailand—as a critical and expanding market for Norwegian seafood.
