Aker BioMarine recognises as the World’s Most Innovative Company
Aker BioMarine, our premium member, has been awarded the title of the world’s most innovative company in the private sector by the Global Innovation Management Institute (GIMI) on 7 November 2024 at Barcelona.
GIMI is the largest global non-profit membership organisation driving standards for innovation management, collaborating with more than 500 university partners worldwide. On November 6, the GIMI Innovation Award was hosted at LaSalle University in Barcelona. In the Private Sector category, Aker BioMarine was recognised for its ability to drive sustainable innovation initiatives promoting health.
The jury stated: “Aker BioMarine earned 1st place for its pioneering work in health and nutritional innovation, driven by its commitment to quality, sustainability, and the development of krill-based omega-3 ingredients that benefit heart, brain, and joint health for people worldwide. Through relentless exploration of new technologies, Aker BioMarine continues to set industry standards, making a global impact on human health.”
The award celebrates organisations and individuals in the public, private, and social sectors who are pushing boundaries and advancing innovation across industries, regions, and communities.
A Global Standard for Innovation
Founded in 2006 as a small Norwegian company, Aker BioMarine has since grown into a leader in the billion-dollar Antarctic krill industry. The company has pioneered sustainable krill harvesting and established a global ecosystem of research, product development, and market expansion.

The GIMI award joins Aker BioMarine’s growing list of accolades, including recognition as “Norway’s Most Innovative Company” and “Europe’s Most Innovative Company.” This honor reflects Aker BioMarine’s pioneering work in sustainable practises and innovation within the health and nutrition sector.
Truls Berg, a judge from Open Innovation, praised the company’s accomplishments: “Aker BioMarine’s achievements are remarkable. From breakthrough technologies in krill harvesting to its commitment to marine conservation, this GIMI award completes a well-deserved hat-trick in industry excellence.”
