ASEAN-Norway Clean and Sustainable Energy Partnership Seminar 2019
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in cooperation with the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Thai Ministry of Energy, the ASEAN Centre for Energy. Multiconsult ASA, Norway Connect and the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce is organising the ASEAN-Norway Clean and Sustainable Energy Partnership Seminar 2019 on Friday 4 October 2019 at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza, Ladprao, Bangkok from 08.30 to 16.00 hrs.
Purpose of the Seminar
Norway wishes to contribute positively to Thailand and ASEAN energy sector through awareness in Thailand and ASEAN of Norwegian technology and expertise, particularly in the clean and sustainable energy sector. The seminar follows Norwegian initiatives in 2016 and 2017 and targets Thai and ASEAN decision makers, the ASEAN and Norwegian energy related business sector, academics, researchers and media.
Format of the seminar
The seminar will discuss the prospects for a more climate-friendly energy supply securing sustainable growth in the region for the future. The first part of the seminar will talk about ASEAN energy cooperation and Thailand’s role as the facilitator during her ASEAN Chairmanship. We will touch upon Thailand’s Alternative Energy Development Plan with a reference of the country’s challenges to meet rising energy demand according to the industrial development policies such as Thailand 4.0 and ongoing massive investments related to the Eastern Economic Corridor. This part will also lead to a discussion on ASEAN’s policy development for energy cooperation, a more climate-friendly energy consumption, and how the energy market should be seen in a regional context with a backdrop against the global energy challenges, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The second part of the seminar will focus on the current clean and sustainable energy solutions as well as how Norway can play a supporting role on clean and sustainable energy development in ASEAN. Examples will be given by both Norwegian and regional technical experts and Norwegian businesses. Issues that could be discussed are national and regional grids and other infrastructure technology, the possibility of a regional energy market, renewable energy solutions and upscaling, as well as the comparatively advantages LNG can play for energy safety and the environment in the regional energy mix.
The latter part of the seminar will focus on opportunities and challenges of clean and sustainable energy as a secure and efficient regional energy sources. The discussion could be on how effective regional cooperation as well as supports by all relevant stakeholders, technology and know-how can safeguard ASEAN’s energy future.
A report of the findings from the seminar as well as recommendations for policy makers in ASEAN will be provided by Multiconsult ASA after the seminar.
