Exclusive Launch of the Thai-EFTA Business Circle
On Thursday, 17 December, H.E. the Norwegian Ambassador, Mrs Kjersti Rødsmoen together with H.E. the Swiss Ambassador, Mrs Helene Budliger Artieda as well as the President of the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, Mr Axel Blom and the President of the Swiss-Thai Chamber of Commerce, Mr Bruno Odermatt, launched the Thai-EFTA Business Circle.
The Thai-EFTA Business Circle is a loose grouping of multilateral business interests representing the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries in Thailand. The EFTA countries are the European countries that are currently not part of the European Union: Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
The aim of the Business Circle is to function as a vehicle to enhance trade between Thailand and the EFTA countries. The Business Circle wishes to promote the Thai and EFTA business communities in Thailand and to encourage collaboration to reach a consensus on EFTA issues in order to mobilise trade negotiations and other issues affecting the multilateral EFTA business communities in Thailand.
Hosting the event were H.E. the Norwegian Ambassador, Mrs Kjersti Rødsmoen, and H.E. the Swiss Ambassador, Mrs Helene Budliger Artieda while Mrs Auramon Supthaweethum, Director General of the Department of Trade Negotiations at Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce also attended the event. Prof. Dr Kriengsak Chareonwongsak, President of the Institute of Future Studies for Development shared key findings from a study of the benefits and implications of negotiating a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Thailand and EFTA.
Representatives of Thailand’s Board of Trade, the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, the Swiss-Thai Chamber of Commerce as well as representatives of Thai companies who are interested in the EFTA market attended the launch event.
