Norway Connect, our premium member, has shared that June 2024 trade figures released by SSB on 15 July reveal intriguing trends in Norway’s trade with Thailand and Indonesia. Key exports, including seafood and fertilisers, show significant changes compared to 2023. This report highlights the main commodities in trade flow, offering insights into export-import dynamics and currency exchange rates. Explore the detailed graphs below.

Thailand

  • Seafood exports from Norway are up 3% as compared to same period in 2023
  • Fertiliser exports from Norway are up 47% as compared to same period in 2023
  • Exports of metal structures, i.e. oil rigs from Thailand are down 6% as compared to same period in 2023. The metal structures are completely dependent on Aibel’s export of oil rigs and offshore transformer stations from Thailand

Export from Norway for Jan-Jun 2024 is split like this:

  • Seafood 49%             NOK 1,467 million
  • Fertilisers 26%          NOK 770 million
  • Other goods 25%      NOK 745 million
  • Total export                NOK 2,982 million
  • Total import                NOK 3,412 million including metal structures of NOK 1,176 million in May 2024

Indonesia 

  • Seafood exports from Norway are up 17% as compared to same period in 2023.
  • Fertiliser exports from Norway are down 34% as compared to same period in 2023. This is mainly due to seasonal fluctuations.

Export from Norway for Jan-Jun 2024 is split like this:

  • Seafood 16%             NOK 106 million
  • Fertilisers 27%          NOK 251 million
  • Other goods 66%      NOK 883 million
  • Total export                NOK 1,343 million
  • Total import                NOK 1,137 million

Compared to 2023 and 2022, export conditions for Norwegian seafood to Indonesia have improved. In addition, 2022 and 2023 indicate huge imports of cobalt minerals from Indonesia and these have yet to come in 2024. Apart from this, there are no significant changes in the composition beyond what has been seen during previous periods.
