It’s Norwegian Constitution Day
The Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce would like to invite all Norwegians and people with a connection to Norway to celebrate the Norwegian Constitutional Day, 17 May. This year, we are honoured to have our Ambassador, H.E. Mrs. Astrid Emilie Helle, offer a celebratory message to everyone.
“On 17 May Norwegians everywhere celebrate our freedom and constitution of 1814. We celebrate democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. We take pride in our welfare state where income distribution and gender equality have brought social stability and economic prosperity.
Norway and Thailand enjoy excellent relations dated back in 1907 when King Chulalongkorn visited our country. The cornerstones in our relationship are trade and investment, people to people contact, respect for international law and the United Nations Charter. We also share the belief that we need innovative economic development for a greener and sustainable future.
Sustainability is at the heart of Norwegian economic development, particularly in the areas of fisheries and energy. Norway is also a leading country for the transition to electric vehicles. Supported by the government incentives and innovative infrastructure development, we have a national goal that all new cars sold by 2025 should be zero-emission.
The EFTA-Thailand Free Trade Agreement negotiations are in good progress and both parties share the ambition to conclude by 2024. We are confident that this modern and comprehensive agreement will accelerate economic growth and promote sustainable development.
