Norwegian Political Visit Bangkok to Promote Norwegian Seafood

Norwegian political promotes Norwegian seafoodLast week, we are honoured to welcome the first political visit from Norway following two and a half years of the pandemic. Norway’s Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, H.E. Mr Vidar Ulriksen flew into Bangkok to promote Norwegian seafood and sustainable fishery.

Thailand is one of the major markets for Norwegian Seafood in Asia, with high demand for salmon and Norwegian Fjord Trout. Norwegian seafood exports to Thailand increased by a whopping 81% in value compared to the same period last year. During the visit, Mr Ulriksen attended the Seafood BBQ Night organised by the Norwegian Seafood Council. The event aimed to reconnect Norwegian exporters and Thai importers after the pandemic. In addition, Mr Ulriksen visited a local market and a supermarket to see with his own eyes how Norwegian seafood is being promoted in Thailand.

Combating fishing crime is a high priority of the government, and Mr Ulriksen also met with the Thai authorities to discuss mutual cooperation on sustainable and defensible fishing. The program also included the food and beverages tradeshow ThaiFex Anuga Asia 2022, where the Norwegian Seafood Council, one of our premium members, had built its own pavilion hosting 16 Norwegian exporters. The booth showcased Norwegian seafood products and offered vast business sourcing opportunities as global demand for seafood continues to stream towards Thailand and Asia. The event acted as a gateway of choice allowing participants to introduce new products, network with international partners, and build valuable relationships aiming to facilitate improved knowledge-sharing. It also provided new business opportunities for the F&B industry professionals.

The 16 Norwegian seafood exporters at the ThaiFex Anuga Asia 2022 include Alliance Seafood, Bravo Seafood, Coast Seafood, Coldwater Prawns of Norway AS, Global Sales AS, Hofseth, Lerøy Seafood Group, Mills, Nordlaks, Norwell, Ocean Supreme AS, Pelagia, Pure Norwegian Seafood AS, Salmar, Sjór AS and Star Seafood AS.
