SCGC advances Marine Fish Conservation on World Oceans Day

SCGC Advances Marine Conservation, Delivers Coral Fish Home Innovation on World Oceans Day to Restore Ecosystems and Boost BiodiversitySCGC advances Marine Conservation, delivers Coral Fish Home Innovation on World Oceans Day to restore Ecosystems and boost Biodiversity

SCG Chemicals, one of our corporate members, a leading integrated polymer and solutions provider for sustainability, advances its mission of marine conservation to protect the ocean by delivering innovative artificial reef fish homes at the “World Oceans Day 2025” event.

Organised by the Office of Marine and Coastal Resources 1 (Rayong), the event was held under the theme WONDER: SUSTAINING WHAT SUSTAINS US – caring for the ocean that nurtures us. The initiative aims to enhance marine biodiversity and promote sustainable tourism. The event was presided over by Deputy Rayong Governor Kamthorn Wehan, who received ten artificial reef fish home units from SCGC. Representing SCGC at the handover were Namthip Samphowprasert, Brand Management and Social Inclusion Director of SCGC, and Witoon Pradubsripetch, Managing Director of Map Ta Phut Tank Terminal Co., Ltd. The handover ceremony took place at Takuan Beach, Mueang District, Rayong Province.

The artificial reef fish homes are an advanced model developed from SCGC’s original fish homes, enhanced to serve as coral settlement substrates. This innovation helps further enrich marine biodiversity within the ecosystem. SCGC has collaborated with the Marine and Coastal Resources Office 1 (Rayong) on this innovation since last year and has already deployed the artificial reef fish homes around Saket Island, Map Ta Phut Subdistrict, Rayong Province.

In addition, at the event, SCGC led a team of employee volunteers to release fish species and conduct a beach cleanup at Takuan Beach. The company also organised an exhibition titled “Innovation for Better Marine” to highlight collaborative efforts in restoring marine ecosystems. Featured innovations included the “New Model Floating Litter Trap: SCGC – DMCR Litter Trap Gen 3”, which intercepts waste from waterways before it reaches the ocean. To date, over 72 units have been installed across 19 provinces, preventing more than 91 tons of land-based waste from entering the sea (data as of April 2025). Another highlighted project was “Nets Up,” which transforms discarded fishing nets into alternative marine materials. Leading brands have adopted these materials to create environmentally friendly products, such as the “From Marine to Fashion” SBN Sport lingerie collection by Sabina, the URBANET bag collection by Mat Archer, and the CAPRI beach furniture collection by Earthology Studio.
