SCGC Joins the Launch of PYROCO2, a CO2 Capture and Utilisation Project, in Norway

On 5 October 2022, SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited, a corporate member of the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, led by Dr Butra Boonliang, Head of Technology Strategy and Portfolio Management, and Dr Tossapol Khamnaen, Senior Researcher-Advanced Materials, joined the launch of PyroCO2, a demonstration plant project based on a carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technology, hosted by SINTEF in Norway. The core of the demonstration plant is to produce 4,000 tons of acetone – a key organic solvent in industrial manufacturing processes – per year from carbon dioxide using the process of fermentation.

SCGC’s key role in this project involves various applications of acetone, such as conversion into propylene, a chemical that can serve as a substitute in manufacturing processes. As SCGC is the first Thai company to join the event under EU Commission’s grant, this presents an excellent opportunity for SCGC to learn about this technology and use it to strive towards its 2050 carbon-neutral goal.
