SCGC partners With Map Ta Phut Municipality to drive Sustainable Waste Management
SCG Chemicals, our corporate member, in collaboration with Map Ta Phut Municipality and the Community Waste Bank Network, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the “Donation of Used Materials from Factory to Community Waste Banks” to drive sustainable waste management. The objective of this initiative is to promote and generate income for the community by repurposing used materials from SCGC’s industrial operations. These materials will be sent for recycling to create added value and to maximise benefits in accordance with the principles of the circular economy.
This collaboration aligns with SCGC’s sustainability policy of “Low Waste, Low Carbon”. Under this agreement, SCGC will supply used materials from its factories, such as plastic bottles, bottle caps, cans, and glass bottles, to six participating community waste banks. The recipient organisations include Khao Phai Community Waste Bank, Map Ta Phut Market Community Recycle Waste Bank, Village Health Volunteer Khot Hin 2 Community Waste Bank, Wat Chak Luk Ya Community Recyclable Waste Sorting Bank Community Enterprise, Noen Phayom Community Environmental Bank Community Enterprise, Nong Bua Daeng for Society, and Environment Community Enterprise. The MoU was formally signed by Thawin Phobuathong, Mayor of Map Ta Phut Municipality; Dr. Pichet Tangpanyarat, Vice President at Industrial Solutions & Partnership of SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited; and the presidents of the six community waste banks.
Thawin Phobuathong, Mayor of Map Ta Phut Municipality, added, “Map Ta Phut Municipality places great importance on the management of waste materials, which aligns with the principles of the circular economy aimed at improving quality of life and fostering a healthier environment for communities in Rayong Province. This initiative not only helps reduce industrial waste from factories but also increases income and encourages greater awareness of the value and significance of recycling. This marks a starting point and serves as a model for continuous development towards a more livable and sustainable community”.
Dr. Pichet Tangpanyarat, Vice President at Industrial Solutions & Partnership, SCGC, said, “This collaboration marks another significant step in advancing sustainable waste management according to circular economy principles, which SCGC continuously prioritises. It represents a joint effort among the public sector, industry, and local communities, encompassing environmental, social, and economic dimensions”.
SCGC has set a target to return 500,000 tons of used plastic annually to the circular economy by 2030. In addition, we are committed to supporting the transition to a low-carbon society by promoting the application of circular economy principles. This initiative also contributes to generating additional income for communities.
