SCG Chemicals or SCGC Sets to Renovate Brand Highlighting “Innovation That’s Real”, Affirming Leadership in Integrated Chemicals Business for Sustainability
SCG Chemicals, a corporate member of the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, is redesigning its brand image to reflect more accurately its true personality to create broader recognition of the company as a pioneer in the integrated chemicals business for sustainability in Thailand and ASEAN. Highlighted will be its strengths in operating an integrated chemicals business from upstream to downstream chemicals and its partnership with leading global partners to innovate products and services as well as a cutting-edge production process under the sustainable development and ESG principles to create a difference and a competitive edge.
Mr. Tanawong Areeratchakul, Chief Executive Officer and President of SCG Chemicals or SCGC emphasise that the company’s operation follows the Chemicals Business for Sustainability model and observes the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SCGC, he says, is renovating its brand after being prepared for listing in the Stock Exchange of Thailand, an important step to communicate SCGC’s true personality more distinctly to create recognition more broadly among all segments of society. The company has redesigned its logo and has released a promotional video titled “INNOVATION THAT’S REAL” to be publicised on multiple media channels.
The redesigned logo is a graphical hexagonal shape of a leaf embedded with the letters “SCGC” to demonstrate SCGC’s long-upheld ideal of sustainable business practices. The company is also determined to innovate for sustainable growth as well as contribute to the strengthening of the Thai economy to uplift consumers’ quality of life under the sustainable development and ESG principles. The letter “SCGC” is short for SCG Chemicals, which has been designed to be unique and to express stability. The colors used also impart meaningful messages: Blue denotes innovation and responsibility; green denotes business operation for sustainability; red denotes SCG heritage, and yellow denotes its proactive drive to achieve growth.
Mr. Tanawong adds that SCGC is determined to achieve leadership in integrated chemicals business for sustainability. Having started business since 1983, SCGC has accrued a nearly 40-year experience and therefore is highly competent in the integrated chemicals operation encompassing the production of upstream monomers such as olefins to downstream polymers including polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, and finished products under the production process that meets international and safety standards. These products are used to produce consumers goods, industrial products, and innovative products that touch on everyone’s life. They are products that add to the convenience of everyday life, such as food packaging, auto parts, electrical appliances, medical equipment, as well as those involving basic infrastructures, such as water pipes and telecommunication cables.
The company, he says, is prepared to accelerate the production of high value-added (HVA) products and services with the determination to achieve “Innovation That’s Real” to respond to global trends and improve people’s quality of life along with protecting the environment for sustainability.
For the past several years, SCGC has increased investment both in Thailand and ASEAN to ensure sustained growth. In 2011 the company acquired 30.57% of shares in PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (CAP), the only integrated petrochemicals manufacturer in Indonesia. Currently, CAP’s total assets are valued at USD 4,590 million. SCGC has also launched the construction of the first integrated petrochemicals facilities of Long Son Petrochemicals Company Limited (LSP) in Vietnam, a 99.99%-owned subsidiary, with a total investment of USD 5,400 million. Commercial operations are expected for the first half of 2023.
SCGC has put great efforts into innovating chemical products that make up an important part of life for the public on a sustained basis. This results in high value-added products and services covering five major industrial groups, including infrastructure, packaging, mobility, healthcare, and energy solutions. Efforts have also been spent on innovating production processes by introducing the use of digital technology throughout the value chain. One of the innovation highlights for the environment is “SCGC GREEN POLYMER”, the green solutions that meet four environmental goals, including (1) “Reduce” resource use and make utmost use of resources through the high-quality plastic production technology called SMXTM Technology; (2) “Recyclable” solution to replace multi-material packaging film with the single-material film produced from PE or PP plastic to enable effective recycling of the material; (3) “Recycle” solution for recycling post-consumer plastics to reduce waste and resource use; and (4) “Renewable” solution to make plastic bio compostable, a process certified by DIN CERTICO, a global certification body, and to make plastic from renewable and environment-friendly resources such as plants.
Moreover, the company has also developed innovative products that satisfy current lifestyles and social conditions along with contributing to strengthening basic infrastructures, such as innovating Mobile Isolation Units, Smart Transfer Wheelchairs, Varogard 3D masks for the new normal way of life, flame-retardant plastic jacketing for cables, plastic pellets for the production of PE112 pipes, etc. Such innovative products will enhance the competitive edge and create a difference for SCGC.
