Seafood from Norway kicks off “Norwegian Thai Taste” campaign taking Norwegian seafood to regional Thai dishes nationwide
Bangkok, 1 August 2024 – The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), our premium member, recently built on the success of ‘The Story from the North’ campaign in 2022, Seafood from Norway is launching the ‘Norwegian Thai Taste’ campaign to expand the market and its collaborations with local restaurant and retail partners nationwide through the integration of Norwegian seafood into regional Thai cuisines. The campaign kicked off in Bangkok and will continue its roadshows in Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Khon Kaen, consecutively throughout August, with Yaya–Urassaya Sperbund returning as Seafood from Norway’s Thailand presenter.
Ms. Åshild Nakken, who recently took on the position of the new Southeast Asia Regional Director of the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) in July 2024, revealed, “We are truly excited to be exploring the wonderful diversity of Thai cuisine from the four distinct regions – the Central, the North, the Northeast, and the South – through the use of our high- quality Norwegian seafood. Under ‘Norwegian Thai Taste’ campaign, we welcomed back our Seafood from Norway’s Thailand presenter, Yaya – Urassaya, and partner with local restaurants and retailers to promote the awareness of Seafood from Norway among Thai consumers while attracting potential new partners nationwide.”
‘Norwegian Thai Taste’ campaign is supported with paid, earned, and owned media via online clips on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, out-of-home advertising, public relations, special menu promotions at three key regional restaurants – Wanlamun in Chiang Mai, Tu Kab Khao in Phuket, and Huean Kham Nang in Khon Kaen, and in-store promotions at partnering stores – Makro, Tops, Big C, Lotus’s, Foodland, and Thammachart Seafood nationwide running between August – September 2024. The launch event was honored by the presence of H.E. Mrs. Astrid Emilie Helle, Ambassador of Norway to Thailand and Cambodia, with a live station hosted by Chef Jib – Chapornpat Dapachutisan, an executive chef and Hell’s Kitchen contestant, presenting four Thai regional dishes consisted of Seared Norwegian Saba with Star Fruit Salad and Japanese Seaweed for the Central region; Norwegian Salmon Northern Curry or Khao Soi for the Northern region; Norwegian Saba Yellow Curry and Taro Stalk for the Southern region; and Steamed Norwegian Salmon with Curry Paste and Thai Herbs for the Northeastern region.
“Norwegian seafood such as Salmon, Norwegian Saba, and Fjord trout have a unique taste and texture, the versatility, and a strong position in the market as they are raised and harvested with the cold, clear waters of Norway giving the perfect living conditions for fish to thrive and the aquaculture in Norway that places high importance on a sustainable seafood production. This presents a great opportunity for local Thai businesses along the value chain to benefit off of the integration of Norwegian seafood into Thai cuisine,” Ms. Åshild added.
In 2023, the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) reported an import value of Norwegian seafood to Thailand at THB 9.5 billion (a growth of 103% compared to 2020). From January – June 2024, the import value of Norwegian seafood to Thailand is currently at THB 4.8 billion, an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year.
