Thai Airways and Bangchak Mark First Use of Thai-Produced SAF, Advancing Low-Carbon Aviation
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, and Bangchak Corporation our Premium Members, have marked a significant milestone for Thailand’s aviation and energy industries with the first supply by Bangchak Group of Thailand-produced HEFA-SPK sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Thai Airways flight TG 409 on the Bangkok–Singapore route at Suvarnabhumi Airport. This landmark collaboration between two leading Thai organisations supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from aviation and accelerate the energy transition toward Net Zero.
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited and the Bangchak Group have jointly taken a significant step in advancing Thailand’s aviation and energy industries by fueling flight TG409 on the Bangkok–Singapore route with HEFA-SPK Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) produced in Thailand for the first time. The refueling took place at Suvarnabhumi Airport, demonstrating the two leading organisations’ commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation sector and accelerating the energy transition toward a Net Zero future.
The HEFA-SPK SAF used for the flight was produced at Thailand’s first standalone 100% HEFA-SPK SAF production facility, which commenced commercial operations in May 2026. The plant has an initial production capacity of 1 million liters per day and uses used cooking oil (UCO) as its primary feedstock. Compared with conventional jet fuel, the SAF can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to approximately 80%. The production system is certified under the internationally recognised ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU standards.

Mr. Chai Eamsiri (Chief Executive Officer, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited) mentioned
“Driving the aviation industry toward sustainable growth requires collaboration across the entire value chain—from energy producers and aviation service providers to regulators, airlines, and industry partners. The first use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel produced in Thailand reflects the country’s capability to develop a strong energy and aviation ecosystem that is well prepared to support the industry’s transition toward a more sustainable future.”
Mr. Chaiwat Kovavisarach (Group Chief Executive Officer, Bangchak Group, President and Group CEO, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited) stated
“The global aviation industry is undergoing a major transformation, with Sustainable Aviation Fuel serving as a key solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This collaboration between Bangchak Group and Thai Airways is not only the first deployment of Thailand-produced HEFA-SPK SAF by the country’s national carrier, but also demonstrates Thailand’s readiness to advance toward a low-carbon aviation industry in line with global aviation trends. It also creates new business growth opportunities while contributing to long-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction.”
The HEFA-SPK SAF was transported from the Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery to Suvarnabhumi Airport via the pipeline system operated by Bangchak Pipeline Transportation Co., Ltd. (BPT). The fuel was then delivered to the aircraft fuel depot operated by Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services Public Company Limited (BAFS) before entering the airport’s aircraft refueling system in accordance with established industry standards.
Thai Airways has also been fully complying with the European Union’s ReFuelEU Aviation Initiative. Since 2024, the airline has used Sustainable Aviation Fuel on flights departing for Europe and further increased its SAF usage in 2025, applying SAF on all flights departing from airports within the European Union, including Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in France, as well as at airports outside the scope of ReFuelEU where national regulations require SAF blending.
This collaboration marks another important milestone in the adoption of Thailand-produced Sustainable Aviation Fuel for Thai Airways’ operations. It reinforces both organisations’ commitment to advancing sustainable aviation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050.

We at the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce (TNCC) are delighted to see two of our Premium Members, Thai Airways International and Bangchak Corporation, joining forces to achieve this landmark milestone for Thailand’s aviation and energy industries. Congratulations to Thai Airways and Bangchak on this outstanding collaboration. We look forward to seeing more partnerships that create a lasting positive impact for Thailand.
