Yara and East West Seed Collaborate to Advance Thai Agriculture
Yara (Thailand) Limited, our premium members, has piloted a knowledge partnership with East-West Seed Company Limited to deliver a comprehensive crop solution for Thai farmers, combining fertiliser innovation with premium seed genetics in a successful watermelon demo project in Kalasin Province.
Yara (Thailand) Limited, a global leader in crop nutrition, and East-West Seed Company Limited, producer and distributor of Sorn Daeng seeds, have piloted a knowledge partnership that brings together their respective expertise to deliver a comprehensive solution to Thai farmers. The first project is watermelon, where Yara and East-West Seed jointly worked on a demo plot in Kalasin Province and recently showcased the successful outcomes of the collaboration.

“East-West Seed has always maintained a clear focus on research and development of high-quality seed varieties that meet market needs. However, the best seeds are like a high-performance engine — they can only reach their full potential with the right fuel. In agriculture, that fuel is knowledge, particularly expertise in crop nutrition. That is why we sought a partner who shares our vision of creating a complete solution for farmers. Our collaboration with Yara combines our expertise in plant genetics and disease management with Yara‘s fertiliser innovations, enabling farmers to achieve premium-quality yields without relying on costly trial and error, while building sustainable and stable incomes,” explains Issara Wong-in, East West Seed Head of Marketing.
Sippakorn Thawornwanchai, Yara Thailand Sales Manager, added that “Yara’s relationship with Thailand dates back more than a century, beginning in 1907. From our origins as a fertiliser producer, Yara has evolved into a provider of knowledge-driven agricultural solutions. This partnership with East West Seed marks an important milestone in how we transfer knowledge and recommend crop programmes – jointly developed and validated through field trials. Both organisations share the same goal of strengthening Thailand’s agricultural sector; we firmly believe that when farmers succeed, the entire food value chain prospers.”

The Premium Watermelon Field Day provided participating farmers with firsthand evidence of the demo plot’s success. Farmers observed clear differences in yield and quality – including fruit size, weight, and flesh quality – achieved through comprehensive management across the farm cycle from soil health analysis, the use of high-quality seeds, precise nutrition management, all the way to post-harvest practices. Such a programme highlights how combining superior genetics with optimised nutrient management can unlock higher productivity and better-quality produce.
Such collaboration reflects a shared commitment from both parties to enhancing the capabilities of Thai farmers, equipping them to meet future challenges, improve productivity and profitability, and contribute to a more sustainable agriculture sector for Thailand.
